RACE DAY!!

The Columbus 1/2 Marathon (13.1 miles) was today and I finished in my best time yet for a long distance race. 8:15 minute miles. I'm sure you're all impressed -- right? I finished 25th in my age group out of 400 people. There were over 3,300 racers.

I was so glad the weather held out for us. The reports kept telling us it was supposed to rain/snow today, but it was around 45-50 degrees for the whole run. Perfect, sans the huge gusts of wind every once in a while.

Taylor took this first picture just to mock me and all my "get up" for the race. I have my gps running watch, an ipod, wrist bands with goal times, jelly beans and gu packs safety pinned to my bottoms. I think I have it all covered right?
My friend Laura (pictured below) is such a great running partner. She trained for this one with me long distance (She now lives in Ogden Utah). She has run the SG marathon with me and this 1/2 marathon 2 times with me. I love her and was soo glad she got to come visit during such an opportune time! Let me know what the next race is -- I'm in. (well, I'm not so sure I could do the Ogden marathon -- she's doing it in 5 weeks -- Good Luck!)

We had a big group of us running together and everyone finished and did really well! Janis and Peggy (from my ward) trained together and it was fun to see them at the beggining of the race and get a big "ward" picture.

Pictured left to right: Carolee, Me, Laura, Amber, Peggy and Janis

Amber and Carolee are my Ohio running buddies, but Mike (Amber's husband) and Carolee's dad both ran the race today too. Carolee's dad turned 51 this week and is my inspiration of how I want to stay fit forever. He was awesome. And Mike helped me get the time I did -- I just looked for him the whole time and tried for a long time to catch up!

Although I wasn't lucky enough to have my husband run with me "this time," he was such a support through all my training. He parented for about 3 months straight every saturday while I ran. He often willingly watched other kids from the running group too, so that we all could get the training in. He basically took over this week while I was MUCH too preoccupied with the upcoming race to worry about kids, dinner, and housework. Thanks for being so great (amidst all you have on your plate). You are so unconditionally supportive for all the crazy things I fill my day up with. I really appreciate and love you!

I am very impressed! Way to go! Running is my least favorite form of exercise, but I've been thinking lately that I need to get some excercise. Can you teach me how to like running? You look great with all your gear!

Sorry I've been gone a while from Blog World. You're so awesome! Look at you running so far, getting a good time, AND even enjoying it! I go by that quote from "Back to the Future 3": "You run?....For fun?" I could never run that far, but my gosh, I'm proud of all those that do!! Love you, Ann Dee!

Hey- nice job on the race- someday I will do another too, it looks like you had a great time!

PS- I loved your comment about the music class for babies and Nannies because that exact thing happened to me. It was a nanny who told me I should put James in preschool, and she just signed up the 10 month old for a music class- so you were right on!!!!!! I wish you could come play- we would love it!!

Ann Dee! Way to go! I was here cheering on friends running the Kentucky Derby mini and marathon. If I would have known, I would have put your name on my posters I was holding and thought about you as I was cheering everyone on. 8:15 min. miles are awesome! I am totally impressed. My goals are like your. . .stay fit forever, at least be able to be active. Let's plan to meet up for the Senior Games in 30 years. Congrats on the race. You're a powerhouse.
