Jake had his tools and started out pretty gung-ho.
Jake didn't like this picture because he said daddy didn't "cheese" (aka smile). So we tried again.....
After this picture, Jake told daddy he needed to work on his "cheese."
The night started like this... then we made a trip to Home Depot. Then some more of this... and finally an attempt at butchering a piece of wood to make it look like a car. Jake's attitude changed as the hours went by. He finally said, "This is boring. I thought it was going to be fun to build a car." Unfortunately, I don't have pictures of the final masterpiece, because apparantly Pinewood Derby cars take more than 3 hours to finish! I think that maybe Taylor's dad understood this, and thus never submitted Taylor to the misery when he was younger.
Jake's attitude brightened a little when we told him we were going to paint and put on the finishing touches next week. Hopefully that is not "so boring."

These pictures are so cute -- I hope I get to have another little boy someday -- Boy things are so different than girl things. I get really tired of the princess and baking stuff.
I can't believe he has never built a car before. Jake is so dang funny!
Jake has definitely got his "cheese" down! I've never quite understood the fixation with making Pinewood Derby cars. I'm more along the lines of Taylor and don't take an active yearly interest (even when my brothers would wander around the house for hours sanding their wheels to spin faster, Dave and Scott pour over directions and plan and plot how to win, and my Dad instructed my brothers how to correctly paint their cars to reduce drag). It all just seems a little over-intense for me...
AnnDee thank goodness for blogs!! I was showing Ammon the thing last night about knowing the Idols husband, etc on your blog and we saw the pinewood entry at the top and we both looked at each other like...AHHHH!! We had totally forgotten! It was on the calendar but with Ammon in Nursery he hadn't been getting the updates. Thank you so much for the great reminder and I can't wait to see the finished product! Little boys are such great motivators to dads!
hey...i'm leaving you a million comments today, but you've done so many posts since I last checked:) These pics reminded me that I never saw pictures of your kitchen. It's all done, right? I don't think it was done when we were there last fall. right? I'd love to see it:)
